5 reasons to choose fabrics with natural fibres
With the advent of fast-fashion chains, the demand for synthetic fibers has increased, they have become the most used fibers by many brands because they cost much less than natural fibers and are the perfect compromise for low-priced fashion. Polyester, acrylic, polyamide, microfibre, elastane, these are some of the many synthetic fibers that come from petroleum and derivatives which undergo complex transformations to become yarn and then fabric. I hope that by now we have become aware that everywhere we turn we are surrounded by synthetic fibers which in turn pollute and damage the environment as well as causing skin problems, to name a few: dermatitis, allergic reactions and respiratory problems.
They keep you warm in summer and cold in winter. Due to their more compact molecular structure, synthetic textile fibers cannot capture the air (except for technical microfibres designed for sport).
Instead of breathing, they tend to sweat, which is why a cotton t-shirt is more comfortable to wear on a hot summer day, unlike polyester or acrylic garments which trap sweat, increasing our sensation of heat.
Fabrics should be considered like a second skin because the skin absorbs everything it comes into contact with and in turn eliminates waste. However, with synthetic fabrics the waste is retained and consequently hinders the correct functioning of our body.
It is recommended to choose natural fabrics especially for all clothing that is in direct contact with your body such as shirts, t-shirts, tank tops, underwear and sheets, also preferring light colours strong> to be sure that they have not been subjected to coloring treatments.
Below I list 5 reasons why it is better to choose fabrics with natural fibres:
1. Natural fiber is the basic element for making yarns and subsequently fabrics
Natural fibers are obtained from plant materials from which fibers can be extracted, or they are obtained from materials of animal origin from which hair or skin can be taken.
Best known natural fibres:
ANIMAL FIBERS: wool, silk.
VEGETABLE FIBERS: linen, hemp, cotton.
2. Why are natural fibers preferable?
Natural fibers are known and appreciated for their comfort, their softness, their versatility and above all for their resistance.
3. They are more ethical and sustainable
If we were to evaluate the ethical/environmental aspect while purchasing a product, we should certainly choose natural fibres, followed by artificial textile fibers of natural origin and finally synthetic textile fibres.
4. A healthy choice
The natural fibers absorb humidity and quickly release it to the outside, a process called “wicking” creates natural ventilation (hygroscopic and breathable fabric).
5. The advantages of natural fibres
ETHICS the production of natural fibers is vital for developing economies.
HEALTHY synthetic fabrics often cause skin rashes, itching, allergies and excessive sweating.
RENEWABLE biodegradable and recyclable, they only generate organic waste at the end of their life.
